Luna's Chinese New Year's Performance
For Chinese New Years, Luna had a performance with her class yesterday at the public library. The girls dressed as Kuan Yin, the Buddhist goddess of compassion and did some dancing and singing. It was pretty sweet.

"Night"
I just finished the book Night by Elie Wiesel. Elie was born in Transylvania and was taken with his family from his home to Auschwitz-Birkenau and later Buchenwald. He was only 15. It is an incredible account of his experience surviving the camps. I feel so fortunate to have had the opportunity to visit Auschwitz-Birkenau as I can feel the places he describes in his book and put it all together. What really struck me was what he said in his acceptance speech for the Nobel Peace Prize, a quote I live by:
"And that is why I swore never to be silent whenever and wherever human beings endure suffering and humiliation. We must take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented. Sometimes we must interfere. When human lives are endangered, when human dignity is in jeopardy, national borders and sensitivities become irrelevant. Wherever men and women are persecuted because of their race, religion, or political views, that place must -- at that moment-- become the center of the universe."

Size 4!
I went to the thrift store yesterday and bought a a pair of Size 4 jeans. Yep size 4! And they fit perfectly. Perplexing...I am still shocked. From June until now I lost about 30lbs without much work. I left for Europe in June wearing a size 12-14!
Returning home I realized I had all that weight on me from soy chai's, clif bars, grad school and lack of exercise. chai's are few and far between these days. In fact they are nice but do nothing for me. The clif bars I am treating as an addiction and will not even go near one. I have been doing yoga and sit ups every day especially before my night shift. It wakes me up and keeps my head clear. I eat regular vegan meals. In Europe I loved the chocolate. But really that's it. It feels great and what is awesome is I have not put any weight back on since I have been back in the States. In fact, I have lost 4 lbs since I have been back.
